Okay – so I went to the Cubs game today and they have lost 9  out of 10 games. it is a very bitter sweet time of the season as I felt very reminiscent  of the days gone by. I caught 3, yes, three baseballs at the Cubs game today. I gave 2 of them away – one to a very adorable little girl, and the other to  a “couple” on their first trip to Wrigley and first time on a real date. WOW!

Sorry – but the 3rd ball was thrown to me from Derek Lee – which I will cherish forever. I am very sad at the thought of Derek not being a part of this team anymore after this sean, and I need to hold on to every little piece I can.

New thought – R.O.Y. – that is Starlin Castro’s new nickname “Roy” – oh, come on, you get it… “R”ookie “Of” the “Year” – ya know Roy – LOL!

Oh well – we are now the St. Louis Spoilers – come on Reds!

There ya go…

Over the past 7 weeks I have been very quiet in regards to my postings about the Cubs. My Tweets have been very low-key and I have not really expressed any kind of emotion about our Cubbies. Okay – so here is the deal. I was interviewing with the Chicago Cubs for a position in their IT department. I was willing to take a pay cut – which would have been substantial and I was very qualified for the job. Well – today I found out that I am “over qualified” and that I would have to take a 65% pay cut. They thought I would get bored very quickly and there is not much room for growth. The Dream has ended. I was being very politically correct and playing down my love for the Cubs so that I could have a chance at this position.

With the ending of that dream, I can now go back to telling it like it is when it comes to the Cubs. I can continue to blog, tweet, video-cast, etc., without having to censor my comments.

The Dream is Gone, as will be Ted Lilly.

During the month of April 2010, the Cubs played 26 games and got 232 hits, averaging to 8.9 hits per game, 10 of those games had hits in the double digits. There was not a single game with less than 3 hits. A total of 121 runs were scored averaging 4.6 runs per game. In 8 of those games, the Cubs scored 2 or less runs, one of those being a shutout, there were 2 games having runs scored in the double digits.

During the month of June 2010, the Cubs played 26 games and got 210 hits, averaging to 8 hits per game, 7 of those games had hits in the double digits. There was not a single games with less than 3 hits. A total of 91 runs were scored averaging 3.5 runs per game. So far, during the month of July 2010, the Cubs played 6 games and got 47 hits, averaging to 7.8 hits per game, 3 of those games had hits in the double digits. A total of 23 runs were scored averaging 4.6 runs per game. In 2 of those games, the Cubs scored 2 or less runs, 1 of those being a shutout.

The worst losses came on June 19 vs LA Angels when the Cubs were blanked 12-0 and only managed to squeeze out 2 hits, with a repeat performance on July 2 against the Cincinnati Reds.

Coming off of their first series win in quite a while, the Cubs are aiming to get back on track in July. We welcome the All-Star break and hope our beloved Cubbies take advantage of some down-time to to get some needed R&R and come back swinging (and winning). The Cubs lone representative at the 2010 All-Star Game will be Marlon Byrd – let’s see if he will be in the Home Run Derby and then help bring a win to the NL.

My Birthday Wish - by Chris Sweda - Chicago Tribune

Every year on my birthday, I wonder what the coming year will bring to my life in the form of adventures, changes, new friends, etc. This year I find myself wondering about the Chicago Cubs and what we can all expect to see within a year. Will there be significant changes? Will there be any changes at all? If so, what kinds of changes? Players, management, front office staff? Will the new Clark and Addison hotel and retail shopping complex break ground? What will happen to veteran players Derrek Lee and Aramis Ramirez? Only time and the next 365 days will answer all of these questions. In the meantime, I will continue to root for the Cubs and hope that Sean Marshall will once again get to compete for a role in the starting rotation.

One more year.

Carlos Silva, the newest additional to the Chicago Cubs starting rotation is currently at 7-0, which is completely amazing because prior to coming to Chicago, he posted a 5-18 record in two years with the Mariners. Okay, do the math – 5 wins in 2 years, and he has 7 wins and zero losses 8 weeks into the season.

I think that at this time, The Bleacher Report needs to issue an apology or a rebuttal to an article (read it here) that was written by Casey Greer on December 19, 2009, stating that “in the trade of Milton Bradley for Carlos Silva, we all lose”. Are you nuts? The Mariners handed us our new ace and $6 million to top it off.

So – how do you think this change for Silva came about? Could it be that maybe he just needed a change of venue….that always seems to work for Milton Bradley – LOL. Or do you think it just happens to have something to do with the off season addition of Greg Maddux to the Cubs Management/Coaching Staff? Rumor has it that Carlos Silva’s amazing turnaround was due in a big part to working intensively with Greg Maddux.

The day that Greg Maddux was traded from the Cubs for the 2nd time, my wish was for him to come back as our pitching coach. I knew that he was going to still pitch for a couple more years, so it might be a bit of a wait. But, when Greg Maddux announced his retirement on December 8th, 2008, my heart skipped a beat in knowing that one day he would come back to the Cubs. Then on January 11th, 2010, much sooner than I had dreamed of, the announcement came that Greg Maddux had joined the Cubs as assistant to the general manager.

Well, you can speculate all you want that Greg is being groomed for the GM position, which one day he will hopefully have, but this “appears” to be the work of Greg Maddux at it’s finest.

Greg Maddux + Carlos Silva = Magic
